WHAT WAS THE DESTRUCTION LIKE ?

Unlike many other countries , Haiti had very few earthquake-proof buildings . The buildings were weak , and therefore many collapsed and became a death trap for people . After the earthquake , USA stopped importing Haitian goods , and that increased the amount of poverty . Because of the poverty , people started getting diseases , and many began suffering from AIDS. Some lost their jobs , the main prison was destroyed so many criminals escaped . The transport and communication links were almost completely destroyed . For a long time , no foreign aid could come in since the airport tower , and some of the rest , was also badly damaged .
